Maya Buffomante (She/Her/Hers)

Nice to meet you! My name is Maya and I am a NYC based actress. I’m originally from Naperville, Illinois, and I recently graduated from the University of Wisconsin–Madison with a BA in Theatre/Drama as an Honors Acting Specialist, along with a degree in Psychology. As a young mixed-race woman, I’m really passionate about using storytelling to celebrate diversity and inclusion. I’m driven by both performance and social impact. I love theatre because it gives us the chance to create work that builds empathy, challenges perspectives, and amplifies underrepresented stories.

Through my background in psychology, I’ve become especially interested in the intersection of performance and human behavior. I use that knowledge to shape my approach to character development and how I portray characters on stage/screen. I’m drawn to stories that challenge perspectives and create space for all voices to be heard.

Some of my favorite past roles include Wendla (Spring Awakening), Cinderella US (Cinderella), Ted (Peter & the Starcatcher), & more. I made my NYC Off-Broadway debut in Find Your Light: Songs from the Musicals of Tomorrow, a showcase of new musical works directed by Joe Barros. Alongside my training at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, I have also trained within the New York Conservatory For Dramatic Arts Professional Development Program.

In addition to acting, I love working as a teaching artist, engaging young performers in creative exploration and self-expression. I’ve taught with Verona Area Community Theatre (VACT), BAM Theatre Company, and the Children’s Theatre of Madison (CTM).

At the heart of my work is the belief that theatre has the power to spark connection, conversation, and change. Whether I’m onstage or behind the scenes, I’m committed to telling stories that reflect the full complexity of the human experience.

My mantra is “One Brave Thing a Day,” and it guides me in both my art and my life.
